What Is Feedback?

Feedback is...

... a process in which the effect or result of an action is communicated back to adjust or enhance subsequent actions.

... a dialogue between people in which one person reflects on how they perceive the behavior or performance of another.

Feedback is not...

Why Is Feedback Important?

Why is it crucial to give and receive constructive, critical, and positive feedback? Several reasons highlight its importance:

  1. Clarify Goals & Expectations: Feedback helps discuss and define expectations and goals together.

  2. Understand External Perceptions: It reveals our 'blind spots' (Johari Fenster), providing insight into how others perceive us.

  3. Provide and Strengthen Confidence: Feedback indicates whether tasks are completed correctly and identifies areas for improvement.

  4. Increase Motivation: Both positive and constructive feedback are signs of appreciation, boosting motivation.

  5. Avoid Misunderstandings: Regular feedback helps prevent unnecessary misunderstandings.

  6. Encourage Positive Behavior: Positive feedback, through praise and recognition, helps employees identify their strengths, build on them, and learn from mistakes.

  7. Build Trust: Two-way feedback strengthens trust and fosters positive relationships.

  8. Create a Positive Environment: Feedback enhances trust and transparency, improving the overall work and team climate.

VENT.IO

"An open feedback culture is particularly important for the success of vent.io and our young, international team. With the support of Verena and Nicole during our feedback day, the common basis for an open error and feedback culture was consolidated. The focus of the varied, interactive and entertaining workshop was to raise awareness of the personal and cultural characteristics of each individual. Various ' feedback hacks' were established after the workshop and are already showing initial positive results."
